re: News week of May 6th

-------------------
Can you get this out to everyone ASAP.

We lost our miniature female Yorkie last night. She's very small, cute and friendly. Actually, about twice the size of a little large guinea pig.

She had a collar on with a bell attached. She's black and brown and answers to the name Molly.

We live in Northampton on Risen Star Drive, so she probably didn't get too far from here. Please if you have seen her call: 929-3072

A reward will be given.

Thank you,
Frank and Jennifer

Saturday 12:00PM - 4:00PM
Please include this information in the next edition of the Pipeline.

I am not sure about the speed bumps, I know I have heard many negative reports about them That stop sign in front does help us. Regarding the monitoring of speed, I hire deputies to issue citations for speeding at times. We cannot hire them every night and day, because of the expense. I do know most deputies hang out in here and do hand out speeding tickets. Most of them have worked for our CWP and they do come in to help us. But, as everyone knows, they are short handed and must respond to other community problems as well. If this will help, I will call the Traffic Division and request they have some deputies come in here more often and try to curtail the speeding. They will also place a speed limit Electric Sign to tell everyone the speed they are going. I hope this will help.
Thank You, Sam

Speed humps do control speeders but they also slow down emergency response times. I work for a Fire Dept.and live in Lexington so I completely understand why people would want then installed. But like I mention before, I have responded to areas with speed bumps/humps and they slow us down so much that it delays us from getting to the home as well as leaving with a patient in the back of a ambulance. Lets see if we can come up with other solutions. Also if we spend as much time on this with the Salvation Army issue, I am more than positive we can come up with ideas

I must respectively disagree with the preceding request to lower the speed limit and add speed humps. Speed humps may slow down speeders but they also slow down fire trucks, police and ambulances as well, placing all of us at increased risk if a disaster occurs by delaying help. I think we need to make the case with our law enforcement that we have a problem with this and need increased presence and ticketing. I don't think the way to target speeders is to punish the vast majority of us who drive carefully and follow the recommended speed in our community.

Children should not be playing on the main artery of the community. Also the speed bumps will do more damage to our vehicles than deter speeders. I find it more appalling that motorists do not stop for golf carts as they cross LO Blvd

This is a comment concerning having bicycles ride on the sidewalk instead of the road in Lexington Oaks...and a self-serving alternative to speed bumps to control speed.

First, I agree about it not being wise to ride a bike at night on LO Blvd. I would not do it as it is too risky. Riding on the sidewalk in the evening is disruptive to the many people who walk in the evening as well as during the day. As a result, I ride during daylight hours, avoiding the short times of vehicle peak traffic. In short, I try to be considerate of those neighbors who also have the right to use and enjoy the roads and sidewalks.
According to Florida law, a bike is a vehicle and has most of the rights of use and responsibilities as a car on Florida roadways. The major difference is a bike should stay to the right of the road, near the right white curb line. (or to the left near the left curb white line if it is a divided highway - a bike can chose either option). Any vehicle passing a bike (riding on the right) has to pass with at least three feet clearance to the left of the biker, just as they would passing any other vehicle. The bike has full right to use the road.
My experience over the past two years is that most drivers either know and respect the law or have courtesy and concern for the safety of their neighbor on the bike. It is easy to do most times since there are two travel lanes and the car just has to move to the outside lane.
The very few time when I get some unwanted extra excitement on my rides are when someone is in a big hurry, going way over the speed limit passing another car on the right. The other cases, fortunately very far between, occur when a vehicle passes extremely close to me even though the outside lane is clear and they could easily move over. Almost like they are trying to tell me to get off the road. In the vast majority of cases (and even those do not happen often) when two cars are overtaking me, one in each lane, the one in the inside lane just slows down a bit and then eases out to pass safely. I always wave a thanks and without exception have gotten friendly waves back (full hand not single finger).
If I could also offer an obviously self-interest option to control speeding. Instead of speed bumps. Why not make a bike lane on the right side of both the incoming and outgoing roads of LO BLVD. from Fairmount Village to the end. The remaining wider single lane in each direction would have a speed limit of 30 MPH. This would still maintain the aesthetic look of a wide, landscaped entry boulevard. The vast majority of residents who do travel at the speed limit would then be the "moving speed bumps" or "pace cars" as there would not be a passing lane. This would keep the speed down while not penalizing those who stay within the speed limit with speed bumps. Also, by starting the revised lanes at Fairmount, there would be plenty of two lane divided road to handle volume and turn lanes coming in and leaving LO at the light. If you do the math (and I have), reducing to 30 mph loses only seconds even if you travel the full length of LO Blvd.

Is any rework or repair going to be done with the pavers at the front of LO? Is that a separate issue?
